407 Visa or Training Visa

The 407 Visa or training visa is a temporary stay visa for people seeking vocational training or professional improvements in Australia. This visa allows individuals to take up vocational training in Australia to meet the vocational registration or license requirement, to improve their job-related skills, or to improve skills abroad.

Subclass 407 Visa Training (Secondary SC 407 Visa Holders) Minister Hawke eliminated restrictions on working hours in all economic sectors. (shall be reviewed in April 2022)

Generally, this visa allows individuals to stay in Australia for two years. It is subject to Condition 8102 prohibiting individuals to work while attending the professional training designated in the application. During your stay in Australia, you shall maintain your health insurance.

You shall apply for this visa online. You can be in or out of Australia while applying. Furthermore, You can include family members (your spouse and children) on your visa application.

There are two eligibility routes for a 407 visa. All applicants shall have the requirements and prerequisites mentioned below.

 

Common Criteria:

• Must be 18 or above

• Practical English language level

• Be a holder of private health insurance

• Fulfilling the character and health and prerequisites

• genuinely plan to stay in Australia temporarily for the purpose intended

It is essential to be sponsored by an approved sponsor for temporary activities.

*According to the Department of the Home Affairs site, you must:

• be sponsored

• Nominated (exempt if your sponsor is a Common Wealth Government agency)

• Invited when the sponsor is a Common Wealth Government agency)

 

Vocational trainee:

This stream requires sponsor nomination to perform one of the activities mentioned below in Australia:

• it is required to obtain registration, membership, or work permit for the training in Australia or the home country

• the training shall be included in the 407 Training Visa Occupations List and in this case the applicants shall have proper and recent experience in advance. These recent and proper experiences include employment or study experience, which are:

             equal to a minimum of 12 months of full-time job experience

             Occurred in 24 months immediately preceding the nomination application.

• It is required to have practical experience, research, or study for up to 6 months to achieve overseas qualifications.

• The training shall be maintained by a government agency or the applicant’s home government

Vocational training commonly requires at least 70% on-the-job training compared to classroom training.

 

Professional improvement

You are required to work abroad in a management position or a professional position.

The training is essentially classroom training and is required to be in position-relevant skills.

Conditions and requirements for this visa

The training visa is valid for a period of 6 months to 2 years.

According to the Immigration Case Officer’s decision the amount of training you require, and the duration of your visa is determined. When your visa is not valid anymore, you may be eligible for another visa.

 

In case you are outside of Australia while the visa is granted, you are allowed to:

• Travel to and from Australia after your visa is issued

• Remain in Australia when the staying period is issued (2 years maximum) beginning on the day you enter Australia

 

 

In case you are in Australia while the visa is granted, you are allowed to:

• stay in Australia when the staying period is issued (2 years maximum) beginning on the day that your visa is issued.

• The staying period issued for you is compatible with your training position or professional development program requirements.

 

You will receive a visa grant notification letter when your visa is issued, and this letter explains your visa conditions, such as the duration of your stay and entry requirements.

Your employer shall nominate you. They cannot be an individual or an entrepreneur.
